💻Drake vs AI, Robot Dogs playing football and lumen5

Catch up with this week's A.I. news and learn about another A.I. tool.

Hey there!

The music industry was really impacted by AI this week. Keep reading to learn more.

Here’s what we’ll learn about today:

  • Drake’s voice is being cloned and he is not happy 🗣️

  • A dog-like robot learns to play football 🐕🤖=⚽

  • Lumen5 creates professional video presentations for you 📽️

Highlight 1: Drake's voice got cloned and used to make a song

Last week the music industry was shaken by the user @Ghostwriter977 who released a song on socials featuring the voices of Drake and The Weekend🔊.

Here is a short version of what happened:

  • TikTok @Ghostwriter977 released “Heart on My Sleeve” which features the voice of The Weekend and Drake (apparently the lyric was original, or so the author claimed)

  • The song went viral 📈📈collecting millions of views on multiple platforms and this is where the copyright problem started.

  • The song was later taken down from all platforms allegedly due to an incoming lawsuit.

What is the controversy?

  • Copyrights help artists make sure people cannot make money using their music.

  • As “Heart on My Sleeve” was not made by Drake, he and his label have no copyright on it.

  • On the other hand, the song contained the “Metro Boomin producer tag“ which is an audio sample owned by the producing company.

  • YouTube publicly stated that the song was taken down due to the Metro Boomin sample, without referring to the song itself.

What comes next is quite dramatic as it could put YouTube against Google itself.

  • Google is one of the many competitors in the AI race. It will keep pushing for AI-based innovation and will not want to inhibit the progress of AI-generated content.

  • YouTube and the production companies 💿 that publish music on the platform will want protection against their voices and music being used for generating new.

Currently, the tension between AI-generated music and its copyright is palpable but no serious steps have been taken.

We will keep you up to date on future development. In the meantime, read another article about this here.

Highlight 2: Dog robots can now learn to play football⚽

The Improbable Artificial Intelligence Lab at MIT has managed to achieve something quite stunning: have a 4-leg robot learn to play football!

Football Start Robot (photo credits to MIT)

This almost cute-looking robot is at the very forefront of engineering, but it was “only“ capable of walking, running, jumping, and doing backflips … yeah you read it correctly (have a look here) 🤯

But this was not enough for the MIT researchers. They decided to equip this robot with an AI algorithm that would help him learn how to dribble and kick a football.

And they succeeded! Watch the video below which includes a brief demonstration.

Why is this significant?

  • This experiment showcases the capabilities of AI to learn a totally new task quickly, and I can attest that playing good football is not an easy feat 🙃!

  • Imagine how useful this would be, for example, on a rescue or surveillance robot 🛟 in an unknown building and had to learn a new step or move to complete the task. This experiment proves it possible!

Watch out for the new robotic Jackie Chan 🥷

Lumen5:

Have you ever wanted to create a professional-looking presentation?

Imagine if instead of having to stick with slides and PowerPoint you could easily convert those into professional-looking videos.

Other than text-to-video presentations lumen5 makes many more things such as:

  • Make videos 10x more engaging by adding highlights, effects, and callouts.

  • You can now edit the video base on the auto-generated script rather than cutting and pasting clips together 🤯

Check their page to see more of what their software can do! lumen5

The following is a video I made as an example which took me 5 minutes to make including singing up for lumen5 😀. If I had to add those effects by video editing today’s newsletter would not be out!

What do you think you will use this for? Let us know!

A.I. Art of the Week:

This week we are featuring a very cool project (a bit geeky tho) from Tivadar Danka @TivadarDanka who turned mathematical theorems into artistic images.

"The set of real numbers is uncountably infinite, in the style of Salvador Dali."

"The integral of a function's derivative recovers the original function, up to a constant."

See you on Thursday!
