Highlight 1: Window plans to incorporate AI everywhere!

In a recent announcement, Microsoft unveiled the latest advancements in Windows 11 🤯 and the goal is to radically change the user experience!

Here are the main products announced:

Windows Copilot you AI assistant built into Windows that will help you customize your machine as well as search the web or create calendar events! 💻
Dev Home, the ultimate AI-powered Hub for developers 🧑‍💻

Lastly, Windows announced a whole new section of the Microsoft App Store just for AI Tools and Apps! 📱

These announcements show the momentum of Microsoft toward AI. In fact, the Dev Home and the AI Microsoft Store create the perfect platform for developers to experiment with AI 🤩

Highlight 2: Unregulated AI is a problem and OpenAI advocates for imposing regulations

On May 22nd a post containing fake news was posted on Twitter showing an explosion near the Pentagon in DC. The post was fake news and went viral also thanks to the image featured which was most likely AI-generated.

Prime example of the dangers in the pay-to-verify system: This account, which tweeted a (very likely AI-generated) photo of a (fake) story about an explosion at the Pentagon, looks at first glance like a legit Bloomberg news feed.

Fake news is not a new story but now readers cannot even rely on images or videos to assess the truth of the claims.

This example is relatively innocuous but as the OpenAI CEO stated last week “If this technology [AI] goes wrong, it can go quite wrong”.

OpenAI released a document encouraging saying “Now is a good time to start thinking about the governance of superintelligence“

The takeaways from this document are:

Coordination: OpenAI advocates for coordination among leading development efforts to maintain safety and integrate superintelligence systems into society smoothly. 🤝
International Authority: OpenAI proposes the establishment of an international authority, akin to the IAEA, to inspect systems, enforce safety standards, and limit deployment and security levels. 🚨
Technical Safety: OpenAI recognizes the critical need for technical research to develop methods to make superintelligence safe. 🛡️

By embracing responsible governance, OpenAI seeks to unleash the potential of superintelligence while mitigating risks which is surely a hard balance to find.

Highlight 3: Photoshop AI

In the previous newsletter, we talked about “the end of Photoshop“, well not yet. Photoshop just released a video showing off its AI tools… and they look incredible. 🤯
